What others have to say…
Thank you for your thoughtfulness, for creating a space for us to talk about hard things, and for not letting us (and me specifically) off the hook from addressing difficult questions. We have plenty of work to do, and I’m glad we have your support in doing it.

The presenter was very professional and engaging. Loved this workshop and would attend again!

[T]he exercises were great, the topic is fascinating and everyone brings their own experience to this so you never know what you might get out of it.

I really liked the break-out sessions. Getting to talk 1-1 with someone else was really helpful and was a real growth opportunity for me. Taking the concepts and making them personal was really helpful.

I attend a lot of diversity program[s] and wasn’t entirely sure what to expect because most of it is about bias training and talking about dismal statistics. No one has ever helped me find my identity or consider how I may want to frame my story, which I thought was unique.

Thank you for modeling vulnerability and honesty.

The sheer number of aspects that go into one’s identity was interesting to think about. In considering what we consciously put forward in our interactions with others, it helps to understand what information we have some control over, and how that interacts with pieces of identity and other people’s assumptions about that information which we have no control over. Intersectionality was something I’d heard of before, but was presented in this workshop in a way that really started to come together.

Content is solid and Thyannda is a great presenter.

Thyannda Mack provided an entirely new insight to our World both for business and for personal growth. I am forever grateful for her teachings about the two sides of identity, how to understand our own identity and of others, and most importantly, how to appreciate and respect our selves and others on a completely next level approach!

Thyannda is an outstanding resource, helping [our school] be an inclusive and equitable community, one that fosters authentic belonging.

I had the pleasure of attending Thyannda’s session on diversity, equity, and inclusion at the YWCA’s Equity Summit. Thyannda does a great job of facilitating a warm and welcoming session for attendees. Her activity, “who am I,” sparked a vulnerable conversation with myself and my breakout room partner. We explored questions around identity and felt vulnerable enough to share our unique experiences. So much so that we connected soon after the session. Her session was by far the best workshop at the summit! I’m so glad I attended.

I enjoyed the activities, particularly the identity wheel, and that we were welcomed to engage in discussion and to embrace discomfort that comes up around engaging with these topics. I also found the concept of “Salience” super helpful. Lastly, I really appreciated the point about considering the potential danger to clients of introducing your own burgeoning identity exploration in the therapeutic space and potential harm that could be caused.

I was able to really talk and get to know my coworkers more than what I had known about them before.

I enjoyed the breakout exercises that focused on discrete issues (coupled with follow-up group reflection) and the town hall portions where participants shared thoughts on more general topics. I probably learned more about myself in the breakout exercises and id questions, and more about social groups in the town hall portions.

[I enjoyed t]he deeper discussion of what identity is, how incredibly multifaceted it is, and how we have the ability to alter the outcome of interactions based on factors within our control.
I also enjoyed the interactive component to the presentation. Honestly, all of the zoom conferences I have been to have been talking at participants. The use of handouts and the breakout rooms was a really nice touch!

Thyannda created a space of safety and growth for us at Sunnyside Chats by first being vulnerable herself. She set the tone for our workshop and I think we all were more open and willing to share and learn because of her bravery. Thyannda gave us perspective and honest, human truths that shifted (at least my) thinking specifically about networking but also about other life aspects. I’m grateful to have had Thyannda as a speaker and can’t wait to attend another workshop of hers!

… so insightful and fostered truly thoughtful conversation.

Thank you so much for this workshop! I have been feeling very stuck around these topics. I have been looking to books/articles on the topic in general, but this was my first exposure to these concepts in a clinical context specifically. It was SO helpful.

I enjoyed learning about the different types of biases and also having some terminology clarified. Although challenging, the first exercise was very interesting/enlightening.

I found the discussion on hidden identities very interesting, especially since I’d taken some courses on human resources last year, but also in light of what’s involved in privacy protection and health-risk tracing due to the pandemic.

I learned that there are aspects of my identity I have explored a lot (e.g., gender identity) and other aspects that I have no awareness around (e.g., legal status). I also learned that every aspect of identity can be complex and require some degree of exploration/ self-examination.

[I enjoyed h]aving it be a true learning experience. And not having too much pressure to “perform” as a participant.

I went into today with a lot of identity anxiety [sic]. This has been helpful – I’m going to be in an uncomfortable space over this for quite some time, but I accept that that is a place from which to grow. Thanks for a good, productive workshop.

Thank you for the workshop you led [sic] recently. I thought it was an excellent learning experience.
